Last week I was watching the "Today Show" and Al Roker was doing a segment with some chefs. He was interviewing them when low and behold Al's pocket begins to ring. I thought, "this must be a joke" but unbelievably Al answered the phone and had a short conversation saying he could not talk right now. (Uh, oh really? You are on National TV speaking on someone else's dime--so kind of Al to deny a lengthy conversation to the caller. ) Anyways, he gets off the phone, looks at the guy he is interviewing and says "Sorry that was my daughter!" The chef just kind of chuckled in disbelief.
Ok, am I the only one that finds the use of a cell phone inappropriate during certain activities? Seems to me the definition"disruptive technology" is taking new meaning with cell phones.
I unfortunately had a friend pass away from cancer last week and during his memorial service on Saturday two cell phones rang, about a month ago I was sitting in a class and student cell phones rang left and right, my husbands mother passed away and during the last prayer at the funeral a cell phone rang (it was salsa music!), a friend's best mans pocket rang during their wedding, a person talked on their cell phone up in the air while I was on an airplane last month, Sunday morning church service had a cell phone ring, two girls sat right in front of my friend at Spiderman and talked on their phone 3/4 of the show, the examples literally could go on and on.
I guess people like Al Roker are setting the standard for our world and his example is not one that uses the vibrate or silent mode on the phone. It really is "true disruptive technology."
